What to Do if You Have a Cavity

Cavities are unfortunately a regular part of life for almost everyone. There is much you can do to prevent them, but sooner or later you will probably get one. If you have a cavity you should:

  • Book an appointment with a dentist
  • Have your cavity filled
  • Improve your dental hygiene routine to prevent future cavities

Visiting the Dentist

If you have a cavity, or suspect you have one, you should schedule an appointment with a dentist. The oral hygienist and dentist will take x-rays and do an exam of your mouth to determine if you have cavities. The dentist may be able to fill your cavities during the same appointment or you may have to come back a different day. You will receive something to numb your gums during the procedure and you will receive fillings that are either composite resin or ceramic that closely match the color of your teeth.

Aftercare

Once you have had your cavities filled, it is important to continue and improve your daily oral hygiene routine to help keep your teeth and gums healthy and prevent future cavities. Brushing, flossing and rinsing daily can prevent cavities from forming and prevent gum disease and tooth decay. If you need cavity fillings in Chapel Hill, visit this website.
